Proven LPR Integration in Your Real Time Crime Center

Home / Proven LPR Integration in Your Real Time Crime Center

Integrating LPR data into a real time crime center (RTCC) enhances law enforcement capabilities by providing real time vehicle information, improving situational awareness, and streamlining investigative workflows. PlateRanger™ powered by Rekor® offers seamless and robust Open API integrations designed for RTCCs to ensure that agencies can fully leverage license plate recognition (LPR) data. The user-friendly integration process allows agencies to quickly connect PlateRanger with their existing RTCC platforms, like the Axon Fusus.

The PlateRanger integration with RTCCs comes at no additional cost, making it easier for agencies to enhance their capabilities without worrying about budget constraints. Whether an agency wants to integrate all license plate reads and hotlists or even detect vehicles without plates, PlateRanger can configure the data flow according to operational needs.

Integration with Real Time Crime Centers is Essential

Real time crime centers (RTCCs) have become instrumental in modern law enforcement, offering significant benefits in crime prevention and resolution. A study of RTCCs highlighted that implementing an RTCC led to a 5% increase in solving violent crimes and a 12% increase in solving property crimes, culminating in an 11% overall improvement in case clearance rates. Although RTCCs are still rare in law enforcement, with less than 1% of agencies in the US using an RTCC, the agencies using RTCCs determined violent crimes worked through an RTCC have a much higher chance of being cleared.

PlateRanger’s Open API integrations seamlessly connect with any Real Time Crime Center (RTCC), ensuring agencies can centralize critical license plate recognition (LPR) data within their existing intelligence platforms. Whether an agency operates a custom-built RTCC or utilizes other public safety solutions like Axon Fusus, PlateRanger’s flexibility allows for effortless integration. PlateRanger’s integrations are built with reliability and scalability in mind.  The system can be configured to send various data types, including all plate reads, alerts on hot or wanted vehicles, and vehicles lacking visible plates. This level of configuration allows law enforcement agencies to streamline their workflows and respond more effectively to investigative leads.

Integration is at the core of tools like PlateRanger, facilitated by an open API that enables seamless interoperability with external public safety systems. To date, the SafetySmart Platform has achieved more than 200 integrations, linking with Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD), Records Management Systems (RMS), Digital Evidence Management Systems (DEMS), and Real-Time Crime Centers (RTCCs).

How the PlateRanger Integration Works with an RTCC

PlateRanger operates on a RESTful API service, ensuring smooth and secure data exchanges to RTCC software. The API allows RTCCs to receive detailed LPR data, including the exact location and timestamp of a license plate read and images of the vehicle, including an overview image, a cropped vehicle image, and a plate-only image.  Beyond basic plate reads, the API also delivers detailed vehicle characteristics such as make, model, color, year range, and class, enhancing investigative efforts. By leveraging these comprehensive data points from PlateRanger, RTCCs can significantly enhance their ability to track and respond to criminal activity in real time.

SafetySmart Platform Solution Integration

In addition to RTCC integration, PlateRanger supports integrations with other SafetySmart Platform solutions like ShotSpotter and CrimeTracer. With the ShotSpotter integration, PlateRanger automatically collects nearby vehicles of a ShotSpotter incident, providing key insights on those vehicles, including historical sightings near gunshot incidents and highlighting nearby vehicles that are on hotlists. This real-time intelligence enables agencies to correlate gunshot detection alerts with nearby LPR reads, provides immediate insights into potential suspect vehicles fleeing the scene, and significantly improves investigative timelines and officer safety.

Integration with CrimeTracer enhances investigative workflows by allowing agencies to link LPR data with broader criminal intelligence networks. This helps officers connect cases and identify patterns across jurisdictions faster. These integrations ensure that PlateRanger is not just a standalone tool but a force multiplier in comprehensive crime reduction strategies.

PlateRanger Integrations with Any Public Safety Systems

PlateRanger allows the review of LPR video clips using precise date, time, and location, which can identify vehicles associated with the crime. Integrating PlateRanger LPR video clips and alerts for wanted vehicles can speed up investigations and arrests and provide insight into crime trends and criminal organizations. Functions that increase exponentially when integrated with critical systems like RTCCs. Beyond integration with RTCCs, PlateRanger’s open API design allows it to integrate seamlessly across public safety ecosystems, including Computer-Aided Dispatch (CAD), Records Management Systems (RMS), Digital Evidence Management (like Evidence.com), 911 call centers, and more.
